Wet Labs Schedule

Opthalmology Wet Lab
Participants will rotate through 4 stations with one-on-one time with boarded equine ophthalmologists in teams of 4-5 participants performing the ocular exam on both normal and abnormal horses. Horses with eye trauma will be utilized (actual live cases to be determined by available inventory of abnormal horse herd). Treatment strategies and protocols will be initiated and developed, and then critiqued and refined. Protocols will include: From treat and release to patient stabilization, preparing for transport and knowing when to refer.

Equine Ultrasound: Musculoskeletal, Respiratory, Abdominal Wet Lab
Participants will rotate through 4 stations with one-on-one time with boarded specialists in teams of 4-5 participants exploring ultrasonographic equine anatomy utilizing normal horses. The laboratory sessions will teach solid skills in imaging normal musculoskeletal soft tissues and the thoracic cavity (respiratory & cardiac aspects) including probe handling, image optimization, and measurement acquisition. Also included, will be a rapid abdominal ultrasound method that takes about 15 minutes to perform, imaging 6 key abdominal sites to assist in choosing medical or surgical management of the acute abdomen.
